Naama Bay is the crescent of sand the resort grew around, and for most of Sharm’s history it was the resort. The promenade runs the length of it, the hotels sit shoulder to shoulder behind, and the streets a block inland are shops, dive centres, restaurants and bars that stay open long after the rest of the town has gone to bed.

What it is like

It is the one part of Sharm where a car is optional. The beach, the supermarket, a doctor, a dive centre and dinner are all inside a walk, which is unusual here and is much of what people are buying. It is also the loudest part of town: a flat facing the wrong way on the wrong street will hear the bars until late, and a flat two streets up the hill will not. The difference is a hundred metres and it is not visible in photographs.

The bay itself is shallow and sandy at the shore, which makes it the swimming beach rather than the diving one — the reefs people come for are further south and north, twenty minutes away by road or by boat.

Buying here

The stock is older than elsewhere in Sharm: buildings from the 1990s and 2000s, hotel apartments, small blocks above shops, a handful of newer infill projects. Standards vary sharply between them, and a building’s service charge and the state of its lifts and pool tell you more about the years ahead than the finish inside any one flat.

Short-term rental demand is the strongest in the city, for the plain reason that a visitor with no car can live here. That cuts both ways: the neighbours change every week, and buildings run mostly as holiday lets feel different to live in from buildings that are mostly homes.
