Egypt makes environmental studies mandatory for private ecotourism in Sinai's reserves
The requirement applies to new private investment on the peninsula's protected land.

The requirement does not apply directly to the residential compounds of Sharm itself: it concerns ecotourism schemes inside reserves. Nine hotel schemes, seven of them Accor's; nearly all the announced rooms are luxury and upper-upscale, and most are due to open by the end of 2027.
